Summer Internship Programme 2026

Gramin Vikas Trust, successfully organized a one-month Summer Internship Programme for students of Nirma University from 11 May 2026 to 11 June 2026. The internship focused on the preparation of People's Biodiversity Registers (PBRs) in ten villages of Saraswati Taluka, Patan District, Gujarat.

People's Biodiversity Registers (PBRs), prepared under the Biological Diversity Act, 2002, document local biological resources, traditional ecological knowledge, ecosystem services, and community conservation practices. These registers support biodiversity conservation, sustainable resource management, environmental planning, and protection of indigenous knowledge.

During the internship, students received orientation on biodiversity conservation, Biodiversity Management Committees (BMCs), PBR preparation processes, and field survey methodologies. They actively participated in village surveys, biodiversity resource mapping, household interactions, focus group discussions, stakeholder consultations, and documentation of local flora, fauna, agricultural biodiversity, medicinal plants, livestock resources, and traditional knowledge systems.

The internship covered the villages of Tank Vasana, Deliyathara, Dhanasara, Dharusan, Nana Nayta, Nana Veloda, Bhatsan, Bhutiya Vasana, Melusan, and Mota Nayta. Students worked closely with Village Panchayats, Biodiversity Management Committees, farmers, women’s groups, traditional healers, and community elders to collect and validate biodiversity-related information.

In addition to field exposure, students contributed to data verification, digital documentation, biodiversity database development, and preparation of PBR reports. The programme enhanced their communication, analytical, technical, computer, teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills while providing practical experience in biodiversity conservation and sustainable rural development.

The Summer Internship Programme successfully bridged academic learning with real-world field experience and contributed to strengthening local biodiversity conservation efforts. Gramin Vikas Trust certifies the successful completion of the internship by the participating Nirma University students and appreciates their valuable contribution towards the preparation of People's Biodiversity Registers.
